二二八和平紀念日，英文是"Peace Memorial Day"

當我們來到台北車站附近的二二八公園，看到美麗寧靜的景色時，也可感謝過去的先人為我們經歷的磨難。

228是台灣獨有的節日，也是台灣歷史上傷亡慘重﹑影響深遠的大事件，身為台灣一份子的你都應該知道它的由來。

先來說說「二二八事件」的由來

隨著日治時期結束，國民政府接收並統治台灣，不料這次的接收是一場悲劇。

1947年2月27日，一根香菸成了此事件壓死駱駝的最後一根稻草。

一名台籍寡婦(林江邁)，因為被懷疑私賣煙而被警察毆打，隨後警察的警告性地鳴槍竟意外殺死一名旁觀者。

因此點燃了群眾怒火，並且迅速傳播開來。

國民政府，隨即展開暴力鎮壓。這個事件雖然從2月27日開始，但並非只發生在2月28日這一天，它為期許久，造成甫來台的國民政府以暴力鎮壓民眾，以及外省人與台灣人之間的對立。

至少有一萬人在此事件中喪生、許多人無故消失或入獄。

228事件開啟白色恐怖的序曲，也是台獨運動的重要推動力。

The 228 Incident 

After the surrender of the Emperor of Japan, the KMT-led Republic of China government took over Taiwan. Unexpectedly, the take-over turned out to be a tragedy. 

On February 27th,1947, a cigarette became the last straw that broke the camel's back.

A Taiwanese widow suspected of selling cigarette was struck and the warning shot from the police accidentally killed a bystander.

The inccident ignited the public anger spreading rapidly. The KMT government violently suppressed the crowd.

At least 10,000 people died in the incident and thousands more inhabitants vanished or were in prisoned.

And the 228 incident started the beginning of the White Terror period and is a crucial impetus for the Taiwan independence movement.
